Pantheon is an MIT-project that tries to map cultural production of the planet. Derived from a list of 11,000 cultural figures – from biographies of personalities in more than 25 languages in Wikipedia, and a book called Human Accomplishment that lists “4002 individuals from the arts and sciences who made a significant contribution prior to 1950”. These are “people who have broken the barriers of space, time and language.”
Standing the test of time, language, and space is one that few can crack – Only 87 Indians feature on this list from 4000 B.C. to 1940. India’s biggest contributions to Pantheon post-1950 are in cinema.
